| Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)Can you get a pole system to fit a bay window?Yes, but at the moment, and particularly on our site, the options are limited. For long heavy drops, what's better - a pole or a track?Either will do provided you get a pole of high thickness (to take the weight), and a metal track is better than a plastic track. As regards the pole - its down to the rating and quality of the pole, and wood is as good as metal.I am confused about the different diameters of the poles. Can you explain? This can be just style, modern sleek finials will require a narrow pole. The size and weight of the curtain hanging from the pole is a factor too. A short drop curtain will look better on a 28mm-35mm pole. For heavy curtains, you will require a thicker pole of at least 35mm.I need to fit a pole into a recess of a window. What do I need to watch for? When you fit a pole into a recess, you don't want finials for the pole, so that the curtain can run as close as possible to the inside of the recess. Some ranges have special recess brackets that are like cups that sit in the side of the recess. Email us in these and other tricky situations and we can advise.I've had a corded track for a while. The runners are sticking - anything I can do?Wipe the dust and debris from the track. Spray the back of the track with silicone spray or furniture polish (eg Mr Sheen). Protect your curtains when you are spraying. It what circumstances is a metal pole more suitable than a wooden one, and vice-versa?Most of it is down to taste and the style of the room. Metal poles give a sleeker, more contemporary feel. Wooden poles have a warmer feel and they can look more traditional (although there are plenty of contemporary designs on the market).Tracks: Corded or Non-Corded?Non-corded tracks are cheaper and suitable for short curtain runs. Corded tracks have the advantage of you having to constantly touch your curtains when pulling. What are the pros and cons of a pole versus a track?Tracks can be corded, so they are good for long curtain runs (some poles can also be corded). Tracks are obviously best for use with a pelmet. Tracks are easier for bay windows. Tracks give a more discreet finish to a window. What sort of pole do I need for eyelet curtains? You need a metal pole because the metal eyelets will run more smoothly. It should be preferably no thicker than 25mm because the aperture of most eyelets is 40mm.What sort of pole do I need for tab-top curtains? You can use metal or wood, but remember that tab-tops don't pull that easily, so highly shine metal (chrome or brass) or highly lacquered wood are best.
